We are a company operating in the natural resource industry for the last 45 years. We have been a client of Nomadis since 2016. We conduct mining activities in West Africa and we need to manage travel for the 2 600 people who work there. Our remote camp has 400 rooms where our expats can be lodged.

Before acquiring Nomadis to manage our remote camp logistics, we used spreadsheets. However, due to our high volume of operations, we needed more features than spreadsheets could offer us. Our desire to provide higher security to our in-transit and on-site remote workers was the main trigger to adopt a new cloud-solution. We also sought to save time and reduce the work effort of our travel and accommodation team via automated bookings. They could now focus on overseeing the process and managing exceptions and problems.


Why we chose Nomadis.

Our HSC (health, safety, and environment) manager approached Nomadis. He was very interested in the “ControlPoint” feature of the platform, which allows real-time employee tracking during transportation and on site.  We wanted to verify when employee checked-in/checked-out of the transport modes and to determine on which zones they were.  We have a clear view of the localization of our employees. We can also generate departures and arrivals reports indicating where to increase security measure if needed. During emergency situations, we can communicate with workers directly through a notification on the mobile phone.

Because it is an integrated software solution, we optimize the time of our travel team and we now have better organization of ground transportation, chartered flights, and commercial flights. Commercial flights can even be managed directly on the platform. The booking process is much easier because Nomadis is integrated with Travel Port (our GDS system) to automatically retrieve commercial flights information.

We are a global company producing billions of barrels a year and we employ 10 800 people spread across 16 countries. We’ve been clients of Nomadis for three years.

Our oil and gas operations are located in the region of Fort McMurray, in northern Canada where we have a camp that can host the 3 600 workers we fly-in and out there. Our camp counts 2 500 rooms where our workers can be accommodated. Before using Nomadis, we had an outdated and very limiting software to manage our remote workforce logistics.


Why we chose Nomadis.

When we decided to equip ourselves with a new and better solution, our goal was to optimize our camp management process and increase security for our workers. We chose Nomadis because of workforce scheduling, transportation, and accommodation were integrated modules resulting in major time-saving. Our team was highly enthusiastic as per the user-friendliness and intuitiveness of the platform. Considering massive operations, we needed a solution that would streamline the whole process and centralize the information in one unique platform. The “Mustering” feature, which we test every week, is also an element that confirmed our decision to work with Nomadis. We are well aware of our Duty of Care for our remote workers and this tool helps us ensure we will be ready if a security incident occurs.


Moreover, with Nomadis, access to the platform is defined by access rights for certain groups. We very much enjoy this aspect of the platform as it allows us to delegate and divide the workload between groups of users and limit what they have access to. For instance, our contractors can now manage the bookings of their employees. End-users are in charge of their own bookings, which decreases our managers’ workload.

We also gained better forecasting. This is crucial when operating such a large camp with many employees working on different rotation patterns. We can now better plan the qualified workforce, the meals requirements, the accommodation and the most optimal mode of transport. As a result, we are more cost-effective than ever because of better cost control. For instance, we sometimes close a section of the camp to reduce fixed and variable costs like housekeeping.


As a whole, our management team is very satisfied with the Nomadis solution software and service, so are our employees who feel confident to travel remotely. Employees feel supported during the travel process with notifications that are sent directly to their mobile phone in case of flight modification. They truly fell the whole process is more fluid and easy. The employees’ RFID card that is tied to their personal profile and travel request information for quick check-in and check-out.

We are a health center operating in the western part of the Nunavik. We have been using Nomadis for 14 years now. Our mandate is to move patients in need of higher medical attention and their escort from their village to our health center. We also need to ensure the transportation of our employees who work here on rotation schedules. Prior to Nomadis, the management of patient journey and employee transportation was very disorganized and errors such as double booking and double invoicing were most of the time unnoticed. This engendered large financial losses every year. It was very hard for us to justify our expenses when being audited by the Health Ministry because our reservations of commercial flights were done manually and thus, we could not generate reports easily. Overall, we needed to find a solution that would ensure we can keep track of our booking expenses and make sure we are charged the correct amount.

Working with Nomadis has completely changed our way of working for the better. The majority of our tasks are now automated, which saves our team a lot of time and boosts our efficiency. Reconciliation of invoices from commercial flight airlines is also much easier since Nomadis allows to automate the creation of invoices and compares it to those received to detect any discrepancy between the two. This feature made us catch errors such as cancelled tickets that were not reimbursed or tickets for children that were charged as adult tickets and much more.

In addition, with this software solution, we gained reporting and forecasting abilities. Nomadis sorts the expenses in the right spending accounts so now, which empowered us to conduct proper reporting. Based on reports about arrivals and departures of patients, we can prepare in advance and make sure there are enough workers to assist them and we can plan for the accommodation of our workers.
