Due to the coronavirus pandemic, logistics for remote operations are destined to be changed substantially. As a result, organizations who depend on an in-person workforce for their operations will have to rethink their processes and prepare a plan that will help them protect the health and safety of their employees, once business travels are allowed.
Implement strategies to protect the health and safety of employees
Employees will face a higher level of stress and request higher security measures to protect their health and safety at work. This applies to all industries, but even more for those who involve work in remote locations and frequent travels. As operations and travel resume, companies have to review the way they handle employee transportation and accommodation and prepare for changes.
- Reduce travel by extending rotation schedules of remote workers and adapting flight schedules accordingly;
- Consider chartered flights as a safer alternative over commercial flights, when possible;
- Consider allowing less passengers per chartered flight to comply with the social distancing rules;
- Enforce a face mask policy for all employees/travelers. Provide face masks to employees;
- Encourage a work from home program for all positions for which it is possible and provide employees with all necessary tools.
- Avoid room sharing as much as possible;
- Increase cleaning frequency for rooms and especially shared areas;
- Allocate more housekeeping resources to support the extra cleaning and sanitization efforts;
- Enforce a face mask policy across the camp;
Catering & Meals management
- Review all food handling and health & safety policies and processes with the catering teams in accordance with the high level of risks;
- Stay as far as possible from buffet-styled cafeteria and consider alternatives to avoid self-serve options. One way could be to deliver meals directly to employees’ rooms;
- Enforce a distancing policy across the camp and especially in cafeterias;
- Impose a limit on the number of people allowed in the cafeteria at the same time. Consider shortened and more defined time windows for eating in cafeteria to facilitate distancing.
